Shopify, eine der Lösungen, die sich schon früh mit der Einrichtung von Online-Stores für Nischen beschäftigte, hat den Shopify-Marketplace gelauncht.

Auf dem Shopify Marketplace findet eine Bündelung des Angebots aller 20.000 Shopify-Stores statt. Die User bekommen damit einen zentralen Anlaufpunkt bei ihrer Suche nach Produkten und die Shop-Betreiber sollen vom Traffic profitieren, den Shopify nach eigenen Angaben täglich auf der Plattform hat.

Wie James MacAulay schreibt, soll der Marketplace dabei komplett unabhängig von Shopify bleiben. Besonders interessant ist, dass Shopify die API für Entwickler offen legen wird:

While Shopify Marketplace and Shopify each work to support the other, the Marketplace is really a new entity independent from Shopify itself. Specifically, The Marketplace interacts with our users’ shops completely through Shopify’s API which we will be releasing to for public use shortly. That’s right, developers: the API will give you all the tools you need to build applications with just as much Shopify integration as you see demonstrated in the Marketplace.

Schön wäre es jetzt natürlich, wenn es einen einheitlichen Warenkorb (wie bei Tradoria) geben würde. Dies ist aber nicht der Fall und somit fungiert der Marketplace aktuell wirklich “nur” als Shopify-Suche, Trafficverteiler und macht die selbst geschaffenen Nischen leichter erschließbar.
