29 Mio. US-Dollar für Social-Gaming-Network Zynga

Wie gestern auf Techcrunch zu lesen, hat das Social Gaming Network Zynga in einer zweiten Finanzierungsrunde 29 Mio. US-Dollar an Land gezogen. Gleichzeitig gibt Zynga den Kauf von YoVille (einer virtuellen Welt-Applikation) bekannt.

Zynga entwickelt sogenannte Casual-Games, die als Applikationen in Facebook, Bebo, Friendster und Meebo eingebunden werden können. Die größten Hits sind Texas Hold’Em, Scramble und Attack (besser bekannt als Risiko). Von den täglich 2,9 Mio. aktiven Nutzern kommen allein 1,6 Mio. über Facebook.

Gegründet wurde Zynga im July des letzten Jahres und hatte bereits im Januar eine Finanzierung in Höhe von 10 Mio. US-Dollar bekommen. Auch wenn noch genügend Geld auf der Bank liegt und der Cash-Flow positiv ist, will Zynga Gründer Mark Pincus für die Zukunft gewappnet sein:

… he feels the stakes are about to get higher as the worlds of casual social gaming and online video games collide. That means he will have to spend more money on both production values and marketing. Pincus tells me:

I think in 18 months these games are going to be highly graphical and immersive. You will be able to jump in and have a casual experience of today, and if you want to go deeper you will be able to.

As it becomes harder to get viral growth, you will need marketing.
